All-Ages Horseback Riding Lessons, Boarding, and Camps

Welcome to Heatherwood’s Equestrian Academy—our family-owned horseback riding center in Granger, Indiana, serving the entire Michiana area. Whether you’re new to riding or returning to the saddle, we offer lessons, camps, and training for all ages in a caring, supportive environment. Our 30-acre property includes indoor and outdoor arenas, scenic trails, and space for riders to connect with their horses, build confidence, and have fun.

Riding Lessons

Heatherwood offers year-round horse riding lessons for all ages and skill levels, with group and private lessons available. The 8-week group lesson session will teach riders English hunter/jumper style riding. Make-up lessons are available for missed sessions, and all clients must complete a Rider Profile & Release of Liability form before their first lesson.

Total Horsemanship

Summer Camps

Week-long summer camps for children ages 5-15 to learn English-style horseback riding and care. The tuition includes riding twice a day, horse care, and horse-related games. The campers put on a show on Friday to demonstrate their skills. Camps run from Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine. Campers are assigned a horse for the week, and the camper-to-counselor ratio is 2:1.

Event Hosting

Host your next event at Heatherwood! From birthday parties to group outings, enjoy horseback riding, hands-on activities, and time with our animals in a fun, family-friendly farm setting. Packages include horse grooming, riding lessons, games, and party space—perfect for unforgettable memories year-round.

A Love for Horses

Heatherwood Equestrian Academy is a family-run barn in Granger, Indiana, started by Deborah Clements—a lifelong horse lover who’s all about sharing the magic of riding. She’s spent years in the saddle and now leads a small, caring team that helps riders of all ages feel confident, capable, and connected to their horses. Whether you’re brand new or ready for the show ring, we’ve got lessons, camps, and plenty of space to learn, grow, and just enjoy being around these amazing animals.

Plan Your Ride

Whether you’re new to horseback riding or returning to the saddle, here’s what you need to know before you arrive.

No, owning a horse is not required. Heatherwood provides well-trained horses for all lessons, camps, and programs.

Riders should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes with a slight heel. Helmets are mandatory; you may use a bicycle helmet or purchase an equestrian helmet from local retailers or online.

We welcome riders aged 4 and up, including adults. Our programs cater to beginners through advanced levels, with no prior experience required.

The 8-week group lesson program costs $280 per rider. Each session includes horse care education, grooming, tacking, and riding instruction. Private lessons are available based on schedule availability.

Yes, if you miss a lesson due to illness, vacation, or scheduling conflicts, makeup sessions can be arranged within the 8-week program.

Yes, all riders must complete a Rider Profile & Release of Liability form before participating in lessons, camps, or events.
